BJP Alliance Secures 102 Seats, Retains Power in Assam Assembly Election
The new term of five years has now commenced for Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief minister of Assam due to the win of the ruling BJP coalition, which has won a majority 102 seats in the state assembly. Given that Sarma has shifted allegiance from Congress to BJP since 2015, he has made sure that the BJP rises from being just a small party to being a dominant force in this region. He has managed to take the votes of this party from 12% in the initial stages to nearly 38%. However, although there have been various successful initiatives initiated by the ruling government such as the Orunodoi drive and massive infrastructural developments, they have come under scrutiny due to the discriminatory approach towards Bengali Muslims.
